About Swamiji____________________________________

Swami Asokananda, a monk since 1973, is one of Integral Yoga’s foremost teachers, known for warmth, intelligence and good humor. His teaching comes out of his own practice. While he enjoys sharing the practical wisdom of yogic philosophy, especially the great Indian scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, he also loves his practice of Hath Yoga and is one of Integral Yoga’s primary instructors for Intermediate and Advanced Hatha Yoga Teacher Trainings. He served as President of Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville and Integral Yoga International for several years. Swami Asokananda presently serves as President of the New York Integral Yoga Institute.

*Playing the Edge in Yoga Asanas Workshop____________________________________

Erich Schiffmann brought the concept of “playing the edge” to the yoga world. In my studies with Erich, and then the exploration with my own body, I have made this an important aspect of my hatha yoga practice. It directly links to how Swami Satchidananda guided the Integral Yoga way of hatha yoga.

In this workshop we will:

·         Get a clear understanding of what the edge is, as well as how it feels in the body

·         How the edge helps us to transform the physical postures into yoga

·         The distinction between intensity and pain

·         What is the psychological edge vs. the physical edge?

·         How to balance the desire to progress in our practice while avoiding the desire to be somewhere else than where we are

We will be practicing asanas during the program.

**Bhakti Yoga-The Path of Devotion - How to Bring our Heart into the Spiritual Life

The world needs heart, maybe more than ever. Bhakti Yoga teaches the art and science of reconnecting to our spiritual heart. The intellect is necessary for highlighting distinction and divisions; it needs to be balanced with the heart, which highlights connection and non-separateness. No matter what religious or spiritual tradition you follow, Bhakti will make the journey sweeter, more enjoyable, and swifter. If practiced with sincerity, it can melt even the hardest and stubbornest ego.

In this workshop Swami Asokananda will present a slideshow exploring how to:

·        -Connect with and form a relationship with the Pure Consciousness at our core, beneath the waves of the mind;

         -Use this power to transform deeply engrained mental patterns and conditioning;

         -Live without fear and leave this world in peace.
